Putting the Fun in Food at Hyde & Seek Gastro Bar

Feel like diving into Chili and Chocolate Glazed Baby Back Ribs or a Wagyu Beef Yankee Burger with Roquefort cheese and caramelized onions? What about throwing back a ‘Don’t Be So Mean Charlie Sheen Cocktail’ made from bourbon, Citron, Italian herbal liqueur, passion fruit and lemon? If you are looking for an eclectic mix of sophisticated and whimsical dishes combined with some thoughtful and creative cocktails with a playful sense of humor, then Hyde & Seek Gastro Pub is the spot for you. Located in the Plaza Athenee Residence on soi Ruamrudee right next to the Ploen Chit BTS Sky Train, this is a trendy and contemporary restaurant and bar that is intent on putting the FUN in food.

The Venue

With seating for 165 inside plus outside dining, Hyde and Seek manages to be inviting and warm even though it’s got a rather masculine feel to it with a dark brown and beige color scheme. The restaurant is dominated by a massive bar at its center which sends a clear message that Hyde & Seek is serious about their cocktails and is working hard to be a mixologist's dream. There are modern yet classic design elements throughout with plenty of crown molding, sturdy wooden swivel chairs, limited leather bank seating, and a clever mix of black marble and wooden table tops. There is a well designed canvas covered garden area which also has comfortable seating and dining areas as well as relaxing water features. Another fun element of Hyde & Seek is the transition it makes each evening when the DJ arrives. If you come to dine in the afternoon or early evening, the restaurant is fairly quiet but as the evening progresses the music gets much louder and it begins to feel more like a club as the activity and energy rises. It then becomes the perfect destination to “come for dinner and then stay for drinks”.

The Food & Cocktails

Celebrity Chef Ian Kittichai, Chef Peter Pitakwong, and the talented team at Hyde & Seek are in the process of rolling out a new menu and Peko Piko was invited to preview some of their newest food and drink items to come. Diners can expect to find popular favorites such as the Ginger Ale Fried Calamari, the Pulled Kurobuta Pork Sandwich and Hyde & Seek’s signature burgers. Most starters on the menu are priced under 200Baht and main dishes are reasonably priced as well.

A recommended starter from the new menu is the Crudo of Bream with Foie Gras, Tosa-Zsu, Pomello and Ginger Oil. This raw fish appetizer is a light and well balanced dish with a subtle, yet complex palate of flavors. It is a perfect fusion of “East meets West” and is well matched with the ‘Sometime After Noon Cocktail’ made with Gordon's gin, elderflower, pear-jam, tea and lemon.

Must try main dishes include the Surf & Turf Braised Wagyu Cheek and Scallop Ravioli with Sweet Corn and Horseradish and the 12 Hours-Maple Brined Pork Belly with Crème Fraiche, Brussels Sprouts, and Nashi Pear. Hyde & Seek’s unorthodox approach to surf & turf is a delightful surprise as it flawlessly paired with a satisfying array of textures and taste sensations. The scallop raviolis were crispy on the outside and full of delicate and sweet scallop flavor on the inside. The Wagyu beef was a well developed powerhouse of rich and savory, melt in your mouth beef that leaves you craving more. Additionally, the pork belly was a masterpiece of complex salty and sweet flavor notes. The chef perfectly matches the luxurious and decadent fat from the pork belly with the firm tartness of the poached pear, the crunchiness of the earthy baby Brussels sprouts and the fork-tender juicy meat. Throw in a ‘Homeless Pirate's Bag of Joy Cocktail’ which is playfully served in a “brown paper bag” and made from aged rum, ruby port, clove syrup, citrus juice, pineapple, mango and aromatic bitters; and you have all the ingredients for a thoroughly satisfying evening.

With a kitchen that is open until midnight and a bar that closes around 100am; Hyde & Seek is the perfect place to congregate with friends or colleagues after work for a dining experience that is heads and shoulder above your average Bangkok pub. It’s all about the food and the cocktails at Hyde & Seek, so be sure to bring your sense of adventure, your sense of humor and a designated driver because this is the kind of place that makes you want to stay until closing.

Hadn't been to Ad Makers in a long time since it moved. Atmosphere isn't the same and seems to be too similar to some of the other Thai / hi-so pubs popping up all over the city. Food is still pretty Read More....
